Final Execution

So for the final execution I decided to try and come up with a story regarding one of the flowers I have in my book. Initially I thought of creating a character from the flower, but they all came out reminding me of either Groot or Pokemon

After sketching a few unsatisfying storyboards which will not be posted here, I decided to go with a story about a girl who picked a chrysanthemum, wore it in her hair and walked around town, bringing stares wherever she went.

The ending is quite morbid as there is the suggestion of death, but that's the entire point, as chrysanthemum symbolises death in Italy as the culture there is to only present those flowers at graveyards. Though chrysanthemums have an explanation on how their negative floriography came about, the rest of the flowers in my book are not so good.

Exhibition Day

After printing finish everything, exhibition day is here. This is how my exhibition looked like:

Based on feedback from people who came to the booth, most people liked my illustrations, and they had no idea that flowers had negative meanings. My lecturers' feedbacks were that my execution weren't enough as it doesn't seem strong enough with just what I had, so I had to add another execution, maybe a video with a story for the flower or something multimedia as all my executions so far is more towards graphic, by the final presentation.

Execution Progress

After finishing the book, I worked on the other forms of execution: bookmarks- in which there are 4 and each one will be placed in a pocket behind each page as they will each represent the opposite symbolism of the previous page's flowers; cards, as small info for passerby's to read; and a poster that asks about flower symbolism to pique people's interest.
These are the bookmarks:

Book Illustrations Progress

Here are some extremely rough sketches for some of the backgrounds I'm drawing. I could only do 4 as these are the ones whose flowers I have confirmed to be able to obtain, from my house garden and also other houses in my housing area, except for the chrysanthemums, which was bought from the florist at the market.

And these are the progress of the backgrounds in photoshop.
